Slaughterhouse Cyanotypes

2022

This was a project created for the 2022 edition of a Zine titled, Milk and Blood. I attempted to create a work that was perishable in nature, but that addresses a topic that despite being consistently overlooked, never fails to churn the stomachs of the iron willed. The brutality of the meat and dairy industry is a sickening truth that our society chooses to ignore. The piece consists of thirty-five cyanotype prints encased in sheets of silicone rubber. The prints depict extremely graphic images of slaughtered cows. The prints are purposely processed incorrectly, so that when exposed to light, the images will disappear. This is representative of the futile efforts of organizations like PETA to shed light on the horrifying acts we all play a key role in officiating to quell our hunger.
Materials: linen, silicone rubber
